Independent Director

I am an independent director who has been on the Board of companies ranging in size from SME family businesses through to multi-million dollar Crown entities.

While each organisation presents unique challenges, my broad background across governance and executive management within private and public sector organisations have provided a skill set appropriate for overviewing the strategic, risk, health and safety, financial, compliance and operational aspects of organisations at the Director level.

I have gained strong governance experience through my roles as a Director on the Boards of public and private commercial companies, on the Executive of a national industry organisation and through responsibilities in community not-for-profit organisations. I have experience as a Ministerial Appointment to Crown companies and entities and have been a Director on a number of Council Controlled Organisations (both CCTO's and CCO's)

In addition to my broad commercial background I also bring with me specific expertise. I have deep experience in the infrastructure, economic development and health sectors. I have an intimate understanding of change and risk management as well as extensive understanding of Health and Safety with an associated background in Quality and Environmental management.

My experience has been recognised through being a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand (CFInstD), a Member of the Business Leaders' Health and Safety Forum and a Member of RiskNZ. These memberships provide professional credibility through their vetting and continuing professional development (CPD) processes.

I am a progressive individual who both challenges the existing paradigm at Board level while also collaborating with fellow directors to hold management to account.

The personal ethics I bring include honesty, transparency, discretion and a belief in a strong Health and Safety culture. It is these attributes which have seen me work successfully across a range of stakeholder groups including private enterprise, Crown, District Council and Runanga to advance the best interests of both my respective organisations and the community.

Study and training, combined with business experience in the area, provide me with a comprehensive understanding of governance responsibilities.
